I like the contrast of the detailed boat in the foreground and the more abstract water and sky in the background and the contrast of the cool blue water and the warm orange sky. This was the first seagull I attempted to draw and appreciate the seabird much more after spending time trying to get the textures of their feathers right. They symbolize a link between the ocean and land. Drawing this guy led me to draw "Eventide" which has a cast of four seabirds. Prior to this piece all my boats floated in still water so in this piece I experimented with bending the reflection in the water. The seabird sits on the Bow so his reflection should be out of the frame but I couldn't resist adding his reflection on the water to the right of the Bow reflection. A few little touches added a lot to this piece. The seaweed hanging from the anchor rope and the buoy shadows adds to the realism.
