About The Artist

I work in traditional oil paint with a limited palette specific to each work. I read somewhere that “painting is just putting the right color in the right place”. Sure, there are many things to consider and decisions to be made (subject, composition, color palette, medium, lighting, brushes, etc) but in the end , for me, its just an artist in front of the canvas putting the right color in the right place. I work from multiple reference sources to complete each piece. I have been drawing off and on my whole life and am primarily self taught. I find inspiration from everything from everyday life to Italian, French and Dutch masters.

Dave splits time in Kirkland, Washington and Bend, Oregon with his wife, 3 kids, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Dave grew up as a military kid and a bit of a nomad having had 25 major moves over his lifetime including seven years in Berlin, Germany.

My Process

I'm primarily as abstract fugitive/narrative and landscape artist working in traditional oil paint. While traveling or out walking the dogs I find places and things that inspire me to want to capture the moment. In other words, I take a lot of photographs. I then use different software/apps to change the composition and colors until I create an image that holds up as an original artwork unto itself. Only then and only the very best pieces do I consider for an oil painting. I use the original and modified images as my reference material. I offer some of the very best artwork reference images in my print shop.
